My work uses the modular unit as a metaphor for the potential of
an individual. Each module represents the possibility of the
endless interconnectivity of a larger system. This
interconnectivity is achieved visually by referencing Minimalism
and distorting Robert Morris’ interpretation of the Gestalt.
Rather than understanding the whole by looking at one side of a
cube, all six sides of my geometric forms vary in order to
interlock with its opposite side. Similar to Minimalism’s use of
industrial materials, I too have limited what I will use. I
operate within a system of parameters using only basic building
materials. In opposition to Minimalism, I reveal my process by
leaving evidence of problem solving and imperfections. |
