DPCI 97/4/782 is a collaborative project between Gail Heidel and
Jennifer Rogers made possible through the assistance of Brandis
L. Meyer, Buyer of Men's Woven Tops from Target Corporation.
The project exists in three parts: A 2006
performance at the Weisman Art Museum and installation of the
performance artifacts at the Boiler Room, Minneapolis, MN. In
2007, a video adaptation of the piece, Deconstructing DPCI
97/4/782, was screened at the Beijing Film Academy, Beijing,
China.
The project consists of tracking the
supply chain of a ready-made garment from conception to the
moment it reaches the consumer. By using an everyday object and
re-contextualizing it, the status of the garment changes from
the ordinary to the extraordinary. At the same time, awareness
is brought to the manufacturing processes and making public an
event that is inevitably private.
The following script was read by announcer
Timothy J. Barnes during the fashion show at the Weisman Art
Museum, Minneapolis, MN. The model, Maggy Collin, dropped
factual signs while she walked the catwalk.
Script: And now Ladies and Gentleman we
have Maggy Collin wearing the Manhasset Brown Plaid shirt from
